Central State University
Assistant Professor of English
WHO I AM
Welcome to my teaching portfolio! I am an assistant professor of English in the Humanities Department at Central State University (named 2017 HBCU of the Year by HBCU Digest). Go Marauders! I am currently working on my book manuscript, Touch Me: Intimacy and the Bookish Contemporary Novel. You can find my work on American literature and comics in ImageText, Black Perspectives, Orbit: A Journal of American Literature, and the Journal of Graphic Novels and Comics.
I regularly utilize my research areas, contemporary American literature and visual culture, to inspire and motivate my students to take the risk of writing as an expert. Some of my specific topics courses have included the literature of the Black Lives Matter Movement, Comics and Graphic Novels, and the Rhetoric of Food. I believe that if you cultivate interest and curiosity in a specific field and encourage a collaborative environment of learning in the classroom, students will develop profoundly as writers. I have highlighted my teaching philosophy, including a discussion of teaching with technology, as well as key course materials, including sample student work. As part of my ongoing development of best practices, I also find value in analyzing student and faculty observations of my teaching.
