I am an associate professor of English in the Humanities Department at Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio. My first book, The Detroit Genre: Race, Dispossession, and Resilience in American Literature and Film (1967-2023), is forthcoming with Lever Press in November 2024. Building on this research on Detroit, I am currently editing a collection of essays entitled Detroit: A Literary and Cultural Response (Michigan State University Press). My next two book projects are studies from popular culture: on the franchise Dragon Ball Z (University of Minnesota Press) and on the comics character The Question (University Press of Mississippi).

My scholarship on literature and comics has appeared in the academic journals Inks, The Comparatist, ImageTexT, and College Literature, as well as several edited collections. I also contribute essays on comics and popular culture to venues for public scholarship, including Los Angeles Review of Books, Public Books, and The Middle Spaces. I am the series editor for University Press of Mississippi's "So You Think You Know..." series of minigraphs on understudied comics characters.
